E-Government Initiative
Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) is heading the Electronic Government Initiative with leadership from the County Commissioners to provide computer systems and services that are focused on the following four areas:
1.Improving Service to Citizens and Other Constituents – Make Government services online accessible and information readily available.This directory of services will include both services provided directly by the county and also those provided by outside agencies under a “no wrong door” philosophy of integrated County and private organizational providers.
2.Improving Efficiency and Accuracy – Consolidate and integrate government systems.More and more electronic systems are provided by sources external to MontgomeryCounty, including the Commonwealth Court Systems, Commonwealth Human Services Systems, and various Federal and Homeland Defense systems.Unfortunately, while these systems have common (or redundant) information and services, they often operate independently and the burden of integration lies with the County.
3.Fostering Democratic Principles – The free flow of information across the Internet facilitates transparency and accountability in government.It also increases accessibility at all levels.
4.Economic Development – E-Gov programs that promote economic development are a boon to businesses.These initiatives generally fall into three categories:
a)Promoting the beauty, benefits, historic and recreational attractions of the area to potential businesses
b)Facilitating the regulatory processes required for doing business in a community
c) Acting as a provider of information and services that facilitate businesses in the community
